Cited in Scopus: 1Chile is a long and narrow country located in South America; its population as of 2017 was 18,419,192. Life expectancy is 83 years for women and 77 years for men.1 Cancer is currently the second leading cause of death in Chile, causing 25.6% of total annual deaths, and recent estimations report that cancer will be the leading cause of death by 2030. It is also the main cause of disease burden measured in terms of disability-adjusted life-years.1 The increasing incidence of cancer can be explained by aging of the Chilean population and known risk factors such as obesity, cigarette smoking, sedentary lifestyle, and other environmental factors.
